Port Nicea - holiday rental

My studio is NO LONGER available to rent thorugh Nice Pebbles and Riviera Pebbles for now

Update September 2018:

I’ve taken my studio off the holiday rentals at the moment as I’m using it too much myself. The last time I booked myself in to stay, my flight home was cancelled but as holiday renters were due in, I had to move out of my own studio and stay in a hotel instead. That gave me the impetus to put the holiday letting on hold for a while. We are still with Nice Pebbles as they have an excellent concierge service but you won’t find my studio listed on the rentals for now.

If you have a late flight when you leave, they are able to offer a luggage store so that you can make the most of your last day. There are many advantages to having your own place rather than a hotel - meals when you wish, lie-ins, fill your fridge with beers and wine and if self-catering puts you off, then there is a cafe, bar, restaurant a couple of steps in every direction plus lots of take-home options close by too - some great pizzerias close by to the studio.

If you don't mind the small inconvenience of converting a sofabed each day then my studio is a great little base from which to explore Nice and no need for a car and offers very good value. It has the small luxuries that count - air-conditioning, life, quiet balcony, washing machine, dishwasher and large TV with English channel package. There's even a Nespresso machine for Nespresso fans (bring your own capsules or buy from the store in Place Massena) as well as a basic cafetiere. Close to the tram at Garibaldi and the Monaco 100 bus from the port plus many local buses and the local train line from Riquier is only a 10-minute walk away.

It's step away from the newly regenerated Place du Pin heading to Place Garibaldi or a pleasant stroll around the Port to the Promenade des Anglais and the beaches or cut through Passage Segaurane into the cool narrow warren of the old town and down to the Cours Saleya market.

From the airport, it's 6 euros to take the 98 express bus to the Promenade des Arts, then a 10-minute walk or a taxi from the airport for around 50 euros.

Le Plongeoir - hold onto your hats

Le Plongeoir restaurant 23rd June 2015

So happy to see this place renovated and open for business.

This dilapidated chunk of rock by La Reserve has been given a modern expensive makeover. We took a couple of hours off our scrubbing and snagging week in Nice to try it out.

Didn't book but got a table on the rock - very windy day - it needed the clear windbreaks. I'd suggest you go on a calm day, it was noisy and felt like being aboard a yacht but I really loved it.  I had salmon with black risotto and DH had rack of lamb.

Portions were small, in future I'd settle down for 3 courses and a bottle of rosé but it was all nicely done and lots of friendly staff and the invariable bit of faffing with a new venture. Enjoyed the atmosphere as much as the food. You can see from the pics there are various levels of courage required for each section plus a decking area close to the wall - out of action today due to the high winds.

My special was 18 euros, the lamb, 29 euros, bottle of San Pellegrino, 7 euros

The wine started at about 24 euros a bottle, no cheap and cheerful carafes here.
